8 Bishopsgate is a striking 50-storey, 204-metre office tower in the heart of London’s financial district, located at the junction of two of the City’s most prominent streets. Standing as the 11th tallest building in London, it sits alongside iconic neighbours such as 122 Leadenhall Street and 22 Bishopsgate, contributing to the capital’s evolving skyline.
The building offers approximately 560,000 sq ft of high-quality office space, designed to support modern ways of working while prioritising user experience. In addition to its core workspace, over 75,000 sq ft is dedicated to shared amenities that encourage collaboration, wellbeing, and social interaction. These include a 200-seat auditorium, flexible meeting and executive suites, a variety of cafés and dining destinations, and several landscaped terraces that provide valuable outdoor space.
At the top of the tower, The Lookout serves as a free public viewing gallery and event space, offering panoramic views across London and reinforcing the building’s connection to the wider city.
Sustainability is central to the design and operation of 8 Bishopsgate. The project integrates low-energy systems and responsible construction practices, achieving a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating. It is recognised as the UK’s tallest commercial building to reach this benchmark and is widely regarded as one of the most sustainable office developments in the country.
LSA and Gustafs has supplied the project with several acoustic solutions. A key focus was the Lookout viewing platform, where acoustic performance and fire resistance were critical. The space, accessed via high-speed lifts, offers panoramic views across central London, demanding both technical precision and refined design execution.
At the heart of the Lookout, nano-perforated acoustic wall panels in natural walnut veneer are installed, balancing high acoustic performance with a clean visual finish. The panels introduce warmth and texture against expansive glazing, while integrated black inlays creates a bold architectural feature. Gustafs panels are also installed in the adjacent Executive Lounge and events spaces, maintaining a consistent walnut aesthetic.
In addition, on the 26th floor, oak veneered ceiling panels and linear ribs defines the restaurant and café areas, contrasted by black service channels for a contemporary feel. Linear Ribs added versatility in corridors, integrating concealed access while enhancing spatial rhythm. Various rib depths allows both functional and dramatic applications. Across meeting rooms and support spaces, Gustafs solutions delivers consistent acoustic control and refined material expression throughout the building.
