CAPAX AND INSTALLATION

Start with the requirement.
Find the right installation system.

When specifying Gustafs products, fire performance, acoustic performance and visual quality are not defined by the panel or material alone. They depend on the complete system and how it is installed. Fire classification, acoustics and demountability are system properties, not just product properties. Select what your project requires below and see which installation systems and products apply.

Installation defines the final result

FIRE

Reliable fire performance – not just the product

Many suppliers certify the raw panel. We certify the finished product as installed – including the wood veneer surface, the lacquer or oil finish, the acoustic perforations, and the Capax fixing system with specified air void and joint detail.

Other suppliers might add a surface or finish after certification. That drops the actual fire rating to a level that is no longer approved – and the certification is no longer valid.
What real fire safety means →

FLEXIBLE AND PRECISE

Fast to install, easy to access

Alignment, joints and rhythm are controlled and repeatable, allowing the finished surface to match the intended design.

Gustafs guarantees a minimum product lifetime of 50 years for most of our products. A demountable, reusable wall or ceiling is a lifecycle advantage.

DESIGN

Installation as part of the design

Capax is not only a technical support system. It can form the architectural outcome.

Different installation principles allow the expression to be defined through:

• Open joints
• Closed joints
• Direction and rhythm
• Variation across surfaces

This enables the installation to actively contribute to the overall design, rather than simply support it.

ACOUSTICS

Controlled acoustic results

The absorption class of a ceiling is determined by the complete assembly – product, void depth, insulation type and fixing configuration. Gustafs documents acoustic values for each product at multiple installation depths, so specifiers can verify performance for each room rather than rely on best-case data from a single test condition.

INSTALLATION SYSTEMS

The system is the specification

Fire performance, acoustic quality and long-term maintainability are not defined by the panel alone – they are defined by the complete assembly. Every Gustafs installation system is engineered and certified as a finished solution, not as a collection of components.

Capax System
For panels, ribs and Feltfon on walls and ceilings. The only system that can deliver A2-s1,d0.
Capax Mix
For ceilings combining multiple materials in one plane. Ribs, Feltfon, Blayde and LED in the same grid. Fire class depends on product choice.
Module-FS
For Lamellow+, Module-T24 and bespoke modules. Pre-assembled units. B-s1,d0.
Lamellow Spa
For wet rooms, spa and bathrooms. Dedicated system with C3/C4 corrosion protection. B-s1,d0.
CAPAX SYSTEM – WALL

Wall

Capax System for walls follows the same profile logic as the ceiling system — panels lock on all four sides with concealed aluminium profiles, guaranteeing zero-gap joints and full individual demountability. Combined wall and ceiling installations within the same space share one coordinated fire classification. A2-s1,d0 available throughout.

CAPAX SYSTEM – CEILING

Standard Ceiling

Offices, education, healthcare, hospitality – Capax System ceiling is the most widely specified Gustafs installation, supporting all product types and all acoustic void depths.
Concealed fixing, torsional rigidity and guaranteed zero-gap joints over time. A2-s1,d0 available with Gustafs Panels, Stripe-XL and Plank-P.

Panels · Ribs · Plank · Feltfon · Stripe-XL

MODULE WALL & CEILINGS

Bespoke modules

Module is a system for Lamellow+ and larger-format rib configurations that arrive on site pre-assembled and ready to hang. Hook-shaped battens and  puzzle piece allow the complete module to be removed without disturbing adjacent panels. Suitable for both ceiling and wall applications where a even faster site process is a priority.

CAPAX MIX CEILINGS

Feature ceiling

When one ceiling combines more than one material.

Capax MIX is designed for installations where Ribs, Feltfon, Blayde and F-Line integrated LED lighting share the same ceiling plane. A single BASE-CF carrier controls alignment and spacing across all elements — no visible transitions, no profile changes. Every element clicks in individually.

DIRECT INSTALLATION

Lamellow & Lamellow Spa

No profile system required. Lamellow+ and Lamellow Spa can be fixed directly to any sound substrate using screws, nails or glue – making them the fastest Gustafs installation method. Lamellow Spa extends this simplicity to wet rooms, bathrooms and spa environments with C3/C4 corrosion-rated hardware.

Note: Direct fixing without an air void or insulation achieves absorption Class D. To reach Class A, Lamellow+ must be installed with the Module-FS system or suspended via T24/T24-DA with the appropriate void depth.

Frequently asked questions

Does the A2-s1,d0 fire classification cover the complete installed system — including profiles, fixings and surface finish?

Yes — and this is one of the most important things to verify when comparing suppliers. Gustafs classifies the complete installed system as it is used in real life: panel core, decorative surface (veneer, foil or laminate), surface finish (lacquer, oil or paint), acoustic perforations where applicable, and the Capax fixing system with specified air void and joint configuration. What the datasheet says is exactly what is installed in the building. Some suppliers certify the raw board only and add surface materials afterwards — this drops the fire rating of the complete product to a level that is no longer approved. Read more about real fire safety →

Which Capax system do I specify if my project requires A2-s1,d0?

Both Capax System and Capax MIX can deliver A2-s1,d0 when specified with the correct products. In Capax System: Plain panels, Perforated panels, Stripes, Stripe-XL and Plank-P achieve A2-s1,d0. In Capax MIX: Linear Ribs and Blayde baffles achieve A2-s1,d0. Feltfon elements in both systems carry B-s1,d0. In a mixed installation, the zone classification is determined by the lowest-rated component. A2-s1,d0 is achieved with: Plain panels, Perforated panels, Stripes, Stripe-XL and Linear Plank and Plank-P – all with veneer or foil surface finish. Linear Ribs (Rib-R, Rib-S), Nano panel, Linear Plank and all Feltfon products carry B-s1,d0 as their highest classification. Capax MIX and Module-FS are B-s1,d0 systems throughout. Note that A2-s1,d0 products always meet B-s1,d0 requirements as well. See all fire classifications →

How deep a void do I need to achieve absorption Class A?

Acoustic class depends on the complete installation assembly — not the product alone. The same panel or rib product can achieve anything from Class D to Class A depending on void depth and insulation treatment. As a general guide, Class A absorption (αw ≥ 0.90) typically requires a minimum 200 mm void with mineral wool infill when using Feltfon or perforated acoustic panels. Lamellow+ can achieve Class A with an air void alone in ceiling applications, or with 45 mm insulation in wall applications. Always verify with product-specific acoustic data for each room configuration. Download all acoustic values →

Can panels and ribs be removed without specialist tools or additional trades?

Yes. Individual panels are released and lowered using a standard panel removal tool included in the Capax installation kit. Linear Ribs click in and out of the BASE-CF carrier individually. No drilling, cutting or specialist equipment is required, and adjacent panels are not disturbed. This makes access to MEP services above the ceiling straightforward throughout the building’s operational life – without mobilising additional trades or causing disruption to surrounding spaces.

Does the fire classification still apply after panels have been removed and reinstalled?

Yes — provided the same panels and Capax profile components are reinstalled in the correct configuration without modification. The A2-s1,d0 or B-s1,d0 certification documents the complete system assembly. If panels are replaced with different products, or if the profile configuration changes, the installation must be re-evaluated against current certification documentation before the classification can be relied upon.

Which system do I specify for a bathroom, spa or wet room ceiling?

Lamellow Spa — the dedicated system for wet and high-humidity environments. Standard Capax System and Capax MIX are not rated for these conditions and must not be used in wet rooms, bathrooms or spa environments. Lamellow Spa uses aluminium profiles with C3/C4 corrosion protection, tested for the specific moisture and load requirements of these spaces. It is suitable for both ceiling and wall applications and carries B-s1,d0 fire classification. Lamellow Spa installation guide →

Can Gustafs panels be reused if the space is reconfigured or refurbished?

Yes. All Gustafs solutions installed with Capax are available in fully demountable versions, and panels can be removed, relocated and reinstalled without damage. The fibre gypsum core is dimensionally stable and not sensitive to variations in temperature or humidity – panels will maintain zero-spacing joints when reinstalled with Capax profiles. Gustafs guarantees a minimum product lifetime of 50 years. A demountable ceiling is not just a maintenance advantage — it means the building material can follow the life of the space rather than ending up as waste.
