UNDER THE SUN

Vasa Real is a primary school in central Stockholm, inaugurated in 1926. The listed building, known for its stately architecture, has undergone an extensive renovation and expansion. As part of this, the school’s capacity has increased from 810 to 1,320 students, and the environment has been enhanced with new, site-specific artworks.

In the school dining hall, artist Viktor Fordell’s collage Under the Sun covers an entire wall. The work combines abstract and figurative elements, where fragments and surfaces interact to create new visual spaces. The color palette harmonizes with the interior design, and the collage is tailored to the primary users of the space – the students who spend time in the dining hall every day.

Fordell’s motifs have been printed on Gustafs nano-perforated ash veneer panels, allowing the artwork to also contribute to improved acoustics in the otherwise lively dining hall environment.
