MODERN PREMISES
Østre Landsret (Eastern High Court), established in 1919, is one of Denmark’s two High Courts, alongside Vestre Landsret (Western High Court). They serve as civil and criminal appellate courts and, in major civil cases involving questions of principle, also act as courts of first instance.
For more than a century, Østre Landsret was located on Bredgade and Fredericiagade in central Copenhagen, in a building originally constructed as an opera house back in 1702. But now, the Court has moved to a new 16,000 m² facility in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn district to obtain modern, functional surroundings. The former premises no longer met contemporary needs, particularly regarding accessibility, safety, and efficient working conditions.
The new building is designed to separate judges, lay assessors, witnesses, and defendants before hearings. Daylight is used extensively, and both the upper-floor judges’ offices and the courtrooms receive generous natural light.
NANO PERFORATION
Each of the building’s twenty courtrooms features a wall clad with Gustafs panels, supplied by our Danish distributor JJI. The acoustics are optimized by combining plain panels with nano-perforated panels, all finished in oak veneer.
Nano-perforated panels appear as plain, continuous surfaces but function as effective sound absorbers. From a normal viewing distance, the tiny perforations are invisible, masking the larger sound chambers within the gypsum core. In this solution, Gustafs successfully combines two sound-absorption mechanisms, achieving a Class A absorption rating.
