The Opera Park is a 21,500 m² public park in Copenhagen’s inner harbor, adjacent to The Royal Danish Opera. It was donated by the A.P. Møller Foundation and designed for recreation, relaxation and contemplation in the dense city center, offering a diverse variation of trees, bushes, plants and flowers.
In total, 223 unique exotic and local species provide a vibrant and ever-changing backdrop for visitors. The park consists of six gardens from various parts of the world, and in the middle lies a 680 m² café and greenhouse with an underground parking garage.
“The Opera Park uses the elements of the historic romantic garden to tackle contemporary challenges. A multi-layered slice of dense urban nature that on the one hand provides the city with nature, creates a quiet sanctuary for its citizens and visitors, and tackles rainwater, and on the other hand stores 300 cars underground.”
– Dan Stubbergaard, Cobe Architects
The park’s organic design expression, with winding paths and rounded flower beds, is reflected inside the building, which also houses one of the park’s six gardens – the subtropical one.
Gustafs Linear Ribs in oak veneer are mounted on the winding walls and railings throughout the building, including the two-storey underground car park, which is acoustically adapted and perhaps Denmark’s most exclusive.
The Opera Park has received over a dozen nominations and awards, both local and international, including:
