Designed by Wingårdh Arkitektkontor, Gustafs panels cover large areas of the Spira Culture Centre in Jonkoping, Sweden. American maple wraps around the 860 seater Concert Hall and the Theatre is clad in green stained oak. For the lobby, white pigmented pine has been specified.
The design of Spira is almost completely devoid of right angles, which optimises acoustic diffusion and reflection in the space, but it made the installation of our panels a unique challenge. Specialist installers ensured the bespoke panels were fitted within the millimetre, and Spira has been praised for its incredible acoustics, offering audiences unforgettable experiences, to the delight of an international roster of musicians and performers.
We talked to Gert Wingårdh about the Spira Culture Centre, celebrating a decade of unforgettable acoustic performances in its four performing arts venues. We explored how the centre is an all-encompassing experience, with a concert hall inspired by Swedish folklore.
