The new police headquarters in Bridgend marks a key milestone in a 10-year initiative to enhance training and facilities for the South Wales Police. The South Wales Police Headquarters campus – which also includes new heritage and learning centres – consolidates several outdated and inefficient sites across the region into one modern, purpose-built location.
Designed by Powell Dobson, the campus was created to meet the specific needs of the police force. The main building serves as a permanent base for both education and administrative functions, featuring a range of specialist training areas such as fitness testing facilities, taser training suites, and officer safety training spaces.
Gustafs and LSA are proud to have supplied both panels and ribs for the site. In total, over 2,400m² of the Gustafs Panel System was specified across the building. White-painted panels feature prominently in the main atrium and corridors, while oak panels were selected for breakout areas and meeting rooms.
The white-painted panels were installed horizontally with exposed open joints, creating a clean, timeless aesthetic. This installation method combines elegant simplicity with the renowned benefits of Gustafs panels – including invisible fixings, full demountability, and superior fire performance.
In contrast, the oak panels in the meeting rooms and breakout spaces were fitted vertically with open joints, highlighting the natural grain of the timber veneer and adding visual definition between each panel.
In addition, Gustafs Linear Ribs in oak veneer were installed on the side and back walls in a lecture hall at the Police learning centre.
