Sankt Annæ Gymnasium is located in Copenhagen and is the only municipal school in Denmark that brings together primary school, secondary school, singing school, and music school within the same building – all connected through music. As part of an extensive renovation of the campus, a completely new music house has been added to reinforce the school’s musical identity and support its ability to develop talent at a high, internationally recognized level.
The new structure has been carefully incorporated into the school’s already distinctive setting and has been placed in front of the existing complex as a visual landmark. Its location clearly announces the presence of a unique musical institution – the only one of its kind in Denmark and among the very few worldwide.
The music hall includes a chamber concert hall, an atrium, a recording studio, classrooms, and dedicated rehearsal spaces. The goal is for the building’s modern facilities to strengthen the school’s physical surroundings while improving the everyday experience for its many students.
A key focus in the development of the new music hall has naturally been acoustics. The acoustic and sound insulation standards have matched those of a conservatory, and to achieve the best possible sound quality, Sweco’s specialists in acoustics and sound design were involved throughout the entire project.
For the project, Gustafs and JJI delivered several fire-rated panel and slatted solutions designed to support strong acoustic performance. These included Linear Ribs in white-pigmented Oak veneer and both plain and nano-perforated panels in Knotty Oak veneer.
