The Kronprinsen quarter in Malmö was built in 1964, and the 27-storey building with its blue mosaic façade, which is the quarter’s most distinctive building, was Malmö’s tallest building until 2005, when the title was overtaken by Turning Torso. The quarter has now undergone extensive renovation, including the redevelopment and modernisation of the shopping centre on the ground floor, resulting in an attractive shopping mall and meeting place!
Kronprinsen was awarded ‘Commercial Space of the Year 2024’ by the industry organisation NCSC (Nordic Commercial Spaces & Communities).
Kamikaze Arkitekter and Dawn of Ideas are the brains behind the shopping centre’s new, modern interior design concept, which focuses on wood and warm, natural colours.
Several of Gustafs’ products have been used in the project, including our plain panels and Linear Ribs in pigmented oak veneer, which can be found in corridors, seating niches and on the various hubs in the shopping centre’s food court. In addition, we have also custom-made plywood baffles that are installed in the ceiling of one of the shopping centre’s entrance passages, which merge with our ribs on the wall. These too are veneered in pigmented oak.
