One way to democratise the interior of buildings is to make it easy and open for visitors to take part in decision-making processes. This is the starting point for Uppsala City Hall’s magnificent new premises. The large atrium connects the different parts of the municipality, but the open city council auditorium is centrally located in the building.
The glass-covered ceiling lets in large amounts of light, which is reflected in the white-pigmented wood that is a central part of the interior. We at Gustafs have supplied wall panels for the different parts of the building. The panels are a mix of acoustic panels and plain, smooth panels – all with white pigmented ash.
In addition to the wall panels, we have also produced a number of special solutions for the interior. These range from furniture and wardrobes to hatches and much more. Where the light ash panels end, dark teak panels take over. In one of the building’s lunchrooms, our wood panels sit on the walls, which have been made from a teak veneer.
