Near the Danish border in Flensburg, Germany, Duborg School stands on the historic foundations of Queen Margaret I’s castle ruins. Established in 1920, the school today serves around 600 Danish-speaking students across grades 7–10 and upper secondary level. It is one of several institutions run by the Danish minority in Southern Schleswig and is considered the leading school within this community.
Praksis Arkitekter has carried out an extensive and complex renovation of the listed buildings, both externally and internally. Covering approximately 13,000 m², the project involved a full restoration and reconstruction of the existing structures, along with the addition of a new 800 m² science department. One of the most notable features is the futuristic glass superstructure added atop the school’s sports hall, creating space for modern classrooms.
JJI supplied Gustafs panel cladding for walls and ceilings in the common room and library, using plain panels in birch veneer.
