The Bartholin Complex at Aarhus University has been comprehensively renewed, with Cubo Architects leading a full-scale renovation and modernization of its 11,000 square meters. The project reshapes the setting for the Department of Biomedicine, introducing state-of-the-art laboratories, offices, and learning spaces while carefully retaining the defining architectural character of the original building.
Situated by the lakes in the southern area of the University Park, the complex remains a key element of the campus’s iconic architecture. As part of the broader AU Health initiative – which also features the award-winning Skou Building – the Bartholin Complex represents a significant step in reinforcing Aarhus University’s role as a global research destination.
Gustafs’ and JJI’s contribution to the project involved delivering plain panel cladding for corridors and meeting rooms across floors one through five. The panels are constructed with a fibre gypsum core, meet all fire safety standards, and are finished with FSC-certified Oak veneer. Notable design features include folding doors, curved corners, and seamlessly integrated seating niches.
