Qatar Convention and Conference Center was conceived and designed by Arata Isozaki in association with RHWL architects to be the largest and most adaptable meeting place in the gulf region. An exciting and functional meeting place offering 10 performance areas including a 2500 seat theatre and a 4 000 seat conference hall, building standards were to be exceptional and unsurpassed. From the exterior, with its symbolic Sidra tree structure supporting the complex´s massive roof to the multi-functional room interiors highlighting fittings and decorations which allude to both modern and traditional Qatari culture the center was to meet every possible modern technological and ecological demand.
Today, situated in Doha´s expansive Education City area the QNCC has already fulfilled the expectations of its owners, Qatar Foundation in achieving LEED Gold status. In 2009 Gustafs was commissioned to manufacture and install over 12 000 m2 of the wooden interior cladding. Ranging from acoustical adjusted cherry, maple and macorré paneling through solid oak wood ribbing to the most challenging 3D-maple veneered wall, the factory at Gustafs produced all that was asked of it, and that was only the beginning.
