Underpinned by our Scandinavian design heritage, we bring you regular stories about architecture and interiors, exploring natural materials, acoustics, and the creation of safe and harmonious environments.
When sustainability is discussed in the construction industry, it’s often about future visions. For Gustafs, it’s already reality. For decades, our acoustic panels have been manufactured with a holistic approach to the environment, health, and durability – resulting in products that not only last, but live up to their promises. Here are some of the reasons why Gustafs panels stand for true sustainability:
At Gustafs, sustainability has never been a sales pitch – it has always been the foundation of everything we do. Long lifespan, responsible material choices, and a low carbon footprint have shaped our production process long before sustainability became a buzzword. For us, environmental responsibility isn’t an add-on – it’s built into every panel we make.
The core of Gustafs panels is a carefully balanced combination of wood and fibre gypsum – two natural, durable raw materials. With up to 98% natural content in every panel, our products are not just a beautiful choice – they’re an honestly sustainable one. But it’s not just what’s inside that matters. The unique fibre gypsum core makes each panel dimensionally stable, robust, and ready to perform in high-demand environments. So while the natural content brings clear environmental benefits, it also results in a technically superior product. In fact, 94% of the core material is recycled.
Longevity isn’t just about durable materials – it’s about a circular mindset throughout the entire product lifecycle. Gustafs panels are designed with reuse in mind: the robust and dimensionally stable fibre gypsum core allows them to be dismantled, relocated, and reinstalled without losing either function or aesthetics. This reduces the need for new production, extends the product’s lifespan, and helps minimize waste. For architects and property owners with a future-focused mindset, this is a clear advantage – both environmentally and economically.

Fibre gypsum is a dead material, meaning it’s unaffected by changes in humidity or temperature. This gives total freedom to create large, seamless surfaces without concerns about future warping, swelling, or movement. This level of dimensional stability is especially valuable in public environments where both visual expression and technical performance must be reliably maintained over time. With Gustafs panels, you get a design language that remains intact – year after year.
A Classic Meets Modern Times – Gustafs Wood Panels in the Heart of Swedish Politics
In the early 2000s, one of Sweden’s most iconic public interiors received a long-awaited update. With our signature birch veneer panels from Gustafs, a warm and timeless atmosphere was created – a Swedish midsummer dream in the very center of political life. Since 2005, our panels have adorned the parliament’s plenary chamber, where tradition meets sustainable design. Thanks to Gustafs’ panel quality, the chamber maintains its beauty and reliability year after year.
Safety doesn’t require additives. Gustafs panels achieve fire classification A2-s1,d0 thanks to their mechanical composition – with no need for additional fire retardant treatments. Unlike many other wood-based products, our panels retain their fire-safe properties even after acoustic perforation or on-site cutting. This means you get consistent and reliable protection, no matter how the product is modified. And without chemical additives that can compromise indoor air quality – a safe choice for both the building and the people in it.
Indoor environments play an increasingly important role in modern construction projects. Our panels actively contribute to healthier air quality, thanks to their glue-free fibre gypsum core, which contains neither urea-formaldehyde nor other harmful emissions. Even after processing – such as cutting or perforation – emission levels remain exceptionally low. This makes Gustafs panels an obvious choice for environments where people spend long periods of time, such as schools, offices, hotels, and hospitals. They also provide a strong advantage in projects aiming for environmental certifications like BREEAM, LEED, or WELL.
In Malmö’s emerging Nyhamnen district stands E.ON’s Nordic headquarters, certified BREEAM Outstanding – one of the world’s most demanding sustainability standards. Here, sustainable architecture and thoughtful material choices, including Gustafs’ ribs, demonstrate how environmental performance and workplace well-being can go hand in hand.
