CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

LEED

LEED is an environmental performance certification program for buildings and not for building products. LEED started 1993 in the US. Building products can contribute with less or more points to achieve the classification levels Platinum, Gold, or Silver of the building, depending on the products characteristics and properties. LEED certified buildings will:

1. Save money
2. Improve efficiency
3. Lower carbon emissions
4. Create healthier places for people

LEED is regarded being the most widely used green building rating system in the world.

Gustafs solutions contribute with excellent properties and will score points in a wide range of the LEED categories used for the assessment of the building product. The quantity or value of Gustafs products in relation to the total building is normally low and the contribution of Gustafs products with points in absolute numbers should not be overstated.

Gustafs Products contribution to LEED points

EA Credit 1: Optimize Energy Performance
+

Walls and especially ceilings with a high thermal mass, similar to our fiber-gypsum core, can even out daily fluctuations in room temperature caused by external temperature changes. These energy savings regarding heating or cooling of the building can contribute to points. The credit awarding system differs for new and existing buildings.

High light reflecting walls and ceilings improve the overall lightning conditions and reduce the need of indirect and artificial light sources. By using light and glossy surfaces the total building energy use can be improved and can contribute to gaining points. The credit awarding system differs for new and existing buildings.

MR Credit 1.2: Building Reuse – Maintain Interior Nonstructural Walls and Ceilings
+

The Gustafs Panels can be used to cover existing walls and ceilings. By reusing at least 50% of non structural elements, 1 point can be gained.

MR Credit 2: Construction Waste Management
+

All our panels can be recycled or salvaged. A total  of 50% gives 1 point, 75% contributes with 2 points. Gustafs can supply cut-to-size and ready to use panels reducing waste to a minimum. When we carry out the installation, we can offer a full redirection of waste, back to the manufacturing process. Gustafs panels can not cover 50-75% of the construction debris, so they must be combined with other materials to achieve this credit.

MR Credit 3: Materials Reuse
+

Due to the life time expectancy and the demountable feature, all our panels can be relocated in new constructions or renovation projects. 1 point can be earned by reusing 5%, 2 points by reusing 10% of the total material costs, calculated to new replacement value.

MR Credit 4: Recycled content
+

Gustafs Panels contain recycled raw materials. 77% is pre-consumer and 17% is post-consumer. 1 or 2 points can be earned depending on the choice of materials and to what extent that the builder decides to use them.

MR Credit 5: Regional Materials
+

For projects within a certain distance from Gustafs, Sweden, our panels can contribute to 2 points. This is providing that 20% in total cost of all used materials are regional.  Regional means manufactured within 800 km when transported by truck, 2400 km by train and 12000 km by sea (see the approximate map).

MR Credit 6: Rapidly Renewable Materials
+

A project can earn 1 point by using 2,5% rapidly renewable materials. This can be achieved by using for example Bamboo or Banana Leaf veneers as a surface for our panels in the contribution of renewable materials. Since our product is a composite assembly of materials, use only the value of the veneer.

MR Credit 7: Certified wood
+

Gustafs Panels use FSC certified wood veneer and can help to achieve this 1 point credit. In total 50% FSC certified wood, based on costs, needs to be used in a permanent way. Since this product is a composite assembly, use only the value of the veneer.

IEQ Credit 3:1: Construction Indoor Air Quality Management Plan – During Construction
+

Our absorptive materials are protected from moisture damage during the on-site storage and can contribute to achieve this 1 point credit.

IEQ Credit 3:2: Construction Indoor Air Quality Management Plan – Before Occupancy
+

Gustafs panels have very low emissions with regard to Formaldehyde and VOC’s. Consequently the panels will provide the best possible conditions to achieve an indoor air quality that guarantees the comfort and well-being for construction workers and building occupants alike. Gustafs can contribute to earning 1 point.

IEQ Credit 4:1: Low Emitting Materials – Adhesives and Sealants
+

The standard installation for Gustafs panels is carried out mechanically using the Gustafs CAPAX fixtures. In exceptional situations adhesives or sealants that may be used, are declared non-odorous/irritating and harmless. The Gustafs panel system can contribute to achieve this credit, worth 1 point.

IEQ Credit 4:4: Low – Emitting Materials – Composite Wood and Agrifiber Products
+

All our interior panel substrates and other millwork products contain no added urea-formaldehyde resins and meet the LEED requirements for this credit.

LEED For Schools

EQ Credit 4. option 6: Low – Emitting Materials
+

Gustafs acoustical ceiling systems and wall coverings will meet the low-emitting requirements for VOC emissions.

EQ Credit 9: Enhanced Acoustical Performance in Schools
+

The acoustical absorbing and transmission qualities of Gustafs Panels can contribute with 1 point. This can be attained by limiting the unoccupied background noise to below 40dB(A) in combination with core walls for learning environments rated with the minimum sound transmission class per room.

CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

BREEAM

BREEAM is an environmental performance certification program for buildings and not for building products. BREEAM started 1990 in the UK. Building products can contribute with less or more points to improve the classification levels Outstanding, Excellent, Very Good or Good of the building, depending on the products characteristics and properties. BREEAM certified buildings have been evaluated regarding:

1. Net zero carbon emissions
2. Whole life performance
3. Health & social impact
4. Circularity & resilience
5. Biodiversity

Gustafs solutions contribute with excellent properties and will score points in a wide range of the BREEAM categories used for the assessment of the building product. The quantity or value of Gustafs products in relation to the total building is normally low and the contribution of Gustafs products with points in absolute numbers should not be exaggerated.

BREEAM is one of the world’s foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings.

BVB

Byggvarubedömningen started 2007 and is a non-profit organization owned by large constructors and property owners in Sweden. BVB – in English Construction Products Assessment, evaluates construction-related products based on their chemical content, life cycle environmental impacts and, by extension, social impacts in the supply chain. BVB promotes product development towards a non-toxic and well-built environment, and a responsible supplier chain.

Most Gustafs solutions are BVB top classified as Recommended and a few as Accepted. None of Gustafs products have been classified To Be Avoided. Search for “Gustafs” on the BVB website to see all our assessed products.

Svanen

Nordic Swan Ecolabel – In 1989, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel was created. The purpose was to make it easy for consumers to find environmentally friendly products and for companies to produce them. It’s a cooperation between state owned companies in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Denmark.
The label Nordic Ecolabel has criteria for labelling apartment buildings, small houses, preschools and schools. A label provides proof of the building’s performance in the five main areas of mandatory requirements of the Swan:

1. Having a low energy consumption
2. Fulfil strict environmental and health requirements on construction products, materials and chemical products.
3. Ensures a good indoor environment and low emissions
4. Having a quality-assured construction process.

Gustafs solutions are energy saving due to their high thermal mass, do not contain added chemicals, have naturally very low emissions and the on-site construction is quality assured due to the use of Gustafs Capax installation system.

SundaHus

SundaHus was founded in 1990 and works actively for phasing out hazardous substances in a building’s entire life cycle. SundaHus is a player in the field of conscious material selections for better indoor environments.

Gustafs Panel- and Ribssystems do not contain added chemicals, have naturally very low emissions and got the best possible A rating in the SundHus assessment.
